Metallica’s World Magnetic Tour, performed in support of the band’s ninth studio album World Magnetic, began in September 2008, and culminated an incredible two years later, in September 2010, by which time the tour had reached North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Oceania. The tour ended up being the most successful by Metallica, grossing roughly $217.2 million (the 18th highest grossing tour of all time). In January 2010, the band headed to South America, playing mostly outdoor shows. This section kicked off in Lima and finished in São Paulo, Brazil. In March, the group returned to Mexico, performing in Guadalajara and Monterrey. The leg continued on with additional dates in South America, as well as shows in Central America. The band also performed for the first time in countries such as Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. During this leg of the tour, the show which most fans of the band consider their finest, is the performance they gave in Santiago, on 26th January. The group played for a blistering two hours plus in the Chilean capital, at the city’s Club Hipico. However, this is not a dingy night spot as the name may suggest, but an esteemed horse racing track, opened in 1870, and home to a variety of live concerts. Bands as diverse as Iron Maiden, Depeche Mode and the Jonas Brothers have all played there in the past. The show performed by Metallica in Santiago on this delightful evening almost 15 years ago remains a legendary performance by the band, and is now released here on this new 2CD set, in its entirety, for the first time.
